However, the building dates back to 1697 when there is reference to John Baker who inherited the family home of 37 High Street, Stourbridge in that year. His inheritance included a shop, outhouses, barns, stables, malt house and washing pool. This appears to be when trading first began on the site of what is now a very impressive building and respected business.
